Perineural Injection Therapy
Perineural Injection Therapy (PIT) is a proven safe, effective treatment for patients with chronic pain or chronic neuropathy who may not be candidates for joint replacement surgery or biologic options. Perineural injection therapy treats inflamed and injured nerves. Chronic nerve pain is often due to trauma, arthritis, sports, overuse, occupational, and surgical injuries.
Any sensation that is perceived by the brain is transmitted to the brain via the sensory nervous system. This is true for sensations like pain, temperature, vibration, or pressure. For example, when a nerve is stimulated by pain, the individual nerve cells generate an electrical current that is carried by the nerve to the spinal cord and then to the brain causing chronic pain.
PIT works by treating the inflamed nerve causing a frequent source pain in a specific body area. The treatment is an injection of dextrose (sugar water) at the site of the nerve causing the pain along multiple points of the nerve.
Dr. John Lyfgogt (pronounced lift-gate) discovered that these injured nerves can be treated with dextrose. Dextrose is a naturally occurring carbohydrate utilized by our body for energy. When dextrose is concentrated and injected adjacent to peripheral nerves, the nerve cell receptor allows the “door” to open therefore restoring the cell to its normal function and leading to the decrease and eventual elimination of pain signals to the brain.
Think of the nerve cells being hungry--the cell needs dextrose (sugar) to function normally.

Perineural Injection Therapy involves the physician understanding the anatomy of these sensory nerves as they course throughout the body. A series of injections containing the dextrose solution is placed underneath the skin much in the same way as getting a TB test or a “pinprick” every 1-2 weeks for 6 treatments total. A very short, small needle is used to treat along the course of the nerve. Patients will immediately know if the therapy worked or not so if no relief is seen with one treatment we don't recommend any follow up treatments. Pain usually returns after 24-48 hours after the first treatment but 5-6 follow up treatments are required for long term relief from pain and many patients experience complete resolution of their chronic pain when other treatments failed.

This therapy is available to anyone including non-members. Our doctors are the only doctors in Northeast Georgia with training from Dr. Lyftgoyt himself!

Acupuncture and
Sweet Nasal Treatment
Auricular Acupuncture for Chronic Pain, Weight Loss, Headaches, Insomnia, Nausea, and Smoking Cessation are available and are recommended monthy.
Sweet Nasal Treatment for Chronic Headaches applies the principle of Perineural Injection Therapy to the sphenopalatine ganglia which is a ganglia that is thought to be involved in the initiation of migraine headaches. The patient lays down on his/her back and tilts the head back and the dextrose solution is placed into the nasal cavity for a period of time to soak the nerves in the solution.
We can teach you how to easily do sweet nasal treatments at home and have syringes available for purchase for ongoing home treatments if needed.

Platelet Rich Plasma
Dr. Phillips is now offering Platelet Rich Plasma Injections for joints and areas of pain to non-members. The total cost includes your evaluation with the doctor and the injection. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a regenerative therapy that uses a concentrated form of a patient’s own blood to promote healing. Blood is drawn and spun in a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich plasma, which is rich in growth factors and healing proteins from your own body.

For chronic joint pain, PRP is injected directly into the affected joint—such as the knee, shoulder, or around the tendon—to stimulate the body’s natural healing process. The growth factors in PRP help reduce inflammation, repair damaged tissues, and encourage the regeneration of cartilage and other joint structures. This can lead to reduced pain, improved joint function, and potentially delay or prevent the need for more invasive treatments like surgery. $479 is the cost for one joint or body area. This can help with plantar fasciitis, joint arthritis, carpel tunnel, and tendoniitis (just to name a few). Call us today to schedule!
